The state owned "Eastern Mining And Processing Complex" (SkhidGZK) was established in 1951. The first ore was won at "Nova" mine in 1956, and the first kilogram of uranium concentrate was produced in 1959.
The Complex is one of the world's 28 uranium mining enterprises, being included in the first ten of them, and it is the largest in Europe.
The Eastern Mining and Processing Complex is the only enterprise in Ukraine engaged in the mining of uranium ore and the production of a uranium oxide concentrate.
Two productive mines of the Complex are equivalent to sixty coal mines in terms of energy production rate, in other words, to a third of Donetsk Basin.
The Complex is located in Dnepropetrovsk and Kirovograd regions with the head office in Zhovty Vody town Dnepropetrovsk region.
The main product of the Complex is a uranium concentrate produced from the natural ore. It constitutes 78% of the overall production of the Complex
SkhidGZK is also manufacturing sulphuric acid as well as various machinery and instrumentation for mining, nuclear power stations and other industrial applications.
The Complex is rendering services in motor and railway transportation, construction, engineering, communication etc.
The strategic purpose of SkhidGZK is to provide for 100% supply of the uranium to all Ukrainian NPS, thus ensuring self-sufficiency of Ukraine in power.
